Fire / Smoke Damper Inspection and Test Service Check List

  • Verify the location of each damper and its installation in the barrier wall.
  • Brush and vacuum clean the damper blades, bearings shafts, guides and hardware.
  • Visually inspect the damper and related components for any signs of damage, misalignment or mismatched parts.
  • (Fire Dampers) Disconnect the existing fuse link and release the damper.  Verify the full closure of the damper.  Repeat this process two more times.  If the damper fails this test, submit an immediate report to the building representative noting the failure.
  • (Smoke Dampers) With the authority and assistance of the building representative, send a close signal to the smoke damper.  Verify the closure of the damper.  Repeat this process two more times.  If the damper fails this test, submit an immediate report to the building representative noting the failure.
  • Label each damper and record the date of the test and the certified technician who performed the test.  
  • Prepare and submit a summary list of all the dampers that were tested and the results.
  • Prepare and submit a written estimate on any repairs that may be needed.
